Year 3 Make Victorian Silhouette Portraits

On Monday, Year 3 worked in groups to create Victorian silhouette portraits of each other. One person had to sit sideways VERY still in front of a white piece of paper, someone else had to stand back and shine a flashlight on the side of the first person's face (they also had to stand very still), and finally, someone else had to trace the outline of the shadow that was created.
Once that was done, they cut out the shape of their profile, traced it onto black paper, then cut that out to create a final piece.
Silhouettes were very popular in Victorian England before photography was invented and became widely used instead.
