Woodwork skills at John’s Boat Works
This morning, a group of Year 1 children visited John's Boat Works on Lots Ait on the River Thames. They discovered that the River Thames is tidal. This morning, the tide was very low. The children walked around the boat yard and spotted an anchor, portholes, gangplanks, life rings, and steering wheels. They even spotted a cat from a photo. The children learnt some boat repairing skills. They used screwdrivers and sandpaper to repair blocks of wood. They also hunted for slugs and snails and blew dandelion clocks. They were very careful to avoid the nettles!
The children spotted many birds on the River Thames. They saw a heron, ducks, a seagull, an egret and two families of geese with their babies.
Thank you so much to John's Boat Works for a fantastic visit!
