Tudor Navigation

As part of our current Topic looking at Tudor exploration, 5/6L considered how Tudor ships would have planned and navigated their journeys. We learnt the history of compasses and discussed how they might have worked and how they were used.
After that, the children worked in groups to try and make their own simple compass. They tried hard and although there were mixed results, it gave us a better sense of how they work and why they might have been useful to Tudors travelling to the 'New World'.
