Tasting Greek Exports!

Posted by Miss Vanos on 06/12/23 at 07:25 PM

Last week, as part of our Topic 'Planning a Greek Holiday' that has a basis in geography, 3M learned about the concepts of exporting and importing. To aid in our understanding, in small groups we pretended to be different European countries and acted out exporting and importing goods with each other.

We discussed the main exports of select European countries and talked about why they are known for their exports. For example, we discussed that countries like Italy and France are well known for their wine because their climate allows them to have successful harvests of quality grapes, which are needed to make wine that people in other countries want to buy.

We learned that Greece's main exports today include olives and olive oil, as the long summers of dry, hot weather are necessary to successfully grow fruitful olive trees.

At the end of the lesson, we tried some of Greece's main exports, including olives, olive oil (which we dipped pitta bread in) , feta cheese and Greek yogurt. For some of us, these were new tastes!
