St. Paul’s Art Gallery: River Exhibition
Our Art Topic this half term has explored the work of Georges Seurat alongside other artists who specialised in river scenes. To bring our unit to a close the children chose their own style to create a river watercolour, based on our recent visit to Strand-on-the-Green. Once these paintings were complete the children created ‘gallery cards’, just like in Museums and famous galleries, to share the story behind their painting and offer an insight into any inspiration.
Once these were complete the staff in the phase put all of the paintings and cards up in the hall, creating our own art gallery. This afternoon all of the children in Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a visit to ‘St. Paul’s Gallery’ where they could view their work and that of their peers. All of the paintings on display looked stunning, and showed the effort and hard work the children put into their art. It was lovely to see the children going round looking at the artwork and complimenting each other. The first exhibition was a huge success and we hope to open the gallery again later on in the year!
