Making maps
We have begun our new 'Tudor Exploration of America' unit in Topic this week. During the first few lessons we have been learning about how the Tudors managed to discover new places considering they had no technology.
One of the ways in which maps for voyages were created was by sailors drawing their own maps as they travelled. They would often start drawing and estimate how far they had travelled and where they had ended up.
To help get ourselves into the mindset of such Tudor explorers the children had a go at a difficult challenge: drawing a modern world map from memory! They gave it a really good go and when we compared our maps to a world map we found that some of them were actually quite similar!
Now we are ready to continue on our voyage...
