Children at St Paul’s School Achieve Well
For many years we have met and exceeded national averages at all stages in the school, due to the hard work of pupils and teachers. The school’s commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum promotes good academic progress for all pupils, without an over focus on assessment at the expense of learning.
Year on year, we have specific areas to celebrate, this year they include:
· 97% of pupils in Year 1 passing the national phonics screener – this is 22% above the national average. Secure phonic knowledge at an early age promotes confidence in reading independently and a life-long love of reading.
· Attainment at the end of Year 2 (Key Stage 1) matched or was above national averages in all subjects. We are particularly pleased with pupil attainment in reading which as 12% higher than national averages. Our children are well placed to take the next step of the learning journey in the juniors.
· Strong exceeding (higher attainment) results in Year 6 (Key Stage 2). Teachers’ ambition for all their pupils is strong and the performance of our most able pupils matches that expectation, ready for the next step to high school.
· 7% above the national average for the percentage of pupils leaving our school at the age-expectation in reading, writing and maths. Pupils are well prepared across all the core subjects for the move to Year 7, helping them to make the transition confidently.
