Ammonite fossils in 3M

Posted by Mrs Heyhoe on 27/11/23 at 08:25 PM

3M have been learning about rocks this half term in Science. The children used magnifying glasses to examine different rocks and decided how to group the rocks according to their simple physical properties (for example, rocks with crystals, rocks with fossils, volcanic rocks etc.)

The children have also been learning how fossils form and they each made an ammonite fossil. They weighed the flour and measured the water to make their own salt dough. They also learned that ammonites are extinct shellfish related to today’s squids and octopuses, which died out 66 million years ago, at the time of the dinosaurs.
