6K Investigate Gravity

Posted by Mr Kearney on 21/01/25 at 07:15 PM

As part of our science unit on forces, 6K spent the lesson learning about how gravity causes unsupported objects to fall towards the Earth.

We learned about the difference between mass (the total amount of matter in an object) and weight (the force of gravity on an object). We learned that mass remains the same regardless of the gravitational pull, but that weight will changed depending on the strength of the gravitation pull. We then got to use Newton Metres - a piece of equipment that is used to measure the forces acting upon an object - to measure and compare the mass and weight of a range of objects around the classroom.
